How bonus wagering works
Almost every welcome bonus comes with a wagering requirement — the qualifying turnover required before bonus-related winnings become withdrawable. It is written as a multiplier such as x30 or x40.
The required turnover is the base amount multiplied by that multiplier. Two things change the number a lot: whether the requirement applies to the bonus only or to deposit + bonus, and how much each game contributes. At 10% contribution, ten times the qualifying turnover must be staked. Read the multiplier, base and contribution together.
Worked example
You deposit $100 and get a $100 bonus at x30, wagering on the bonus only.
Turnover required = 100 × 30 = $3,000 of bets.
Assuming a 4% expected loss rate, $3,000 in turnover gives an estimated cost of $120 and a net bonus value of −$20. If the offer required wagering on a $100 deposit plus the $100 bonus, the required turnover would be $6,000. Actual results vary.
Frequently asked questions
What is a wagering requirement?
A wagering requirement (also called rollover or playthrough) specifies the qualifying turnover needed before bonus-related winnings can be withdrawn. At 30x on a $100 bonus, that is $3,000 in qualifying stakes. The base may be the bonus alone or the deposit plus bonus; check the offer terms.
How do I calculate how much I need to bet to clear a bonus?
Multiply the base amount by the wagering requirement. If wagering applies to the bonus only: bonus × requirement. If it applies to deposit + bonus: (deposit + bonus) × requirement. A $100 bonus at x30 on the bonus = $3,000 of bets.
Does clearing a bonus cost money?
Qualifying bets can lose money. This calculator starts with an illustrative 4% expected loss rate, which you can edit. Game contribution changes the total stakes needed to complete wagering. Actual results can differ substantially, and you may lose your funds before meeting the requirement.
Should wagering apply to the bonus or deposit + bonus?
For the same bonus and multiplier, bonus-only wagering requires less turnover. Deposit-plus-bonus wagering doubles the requirement only when the deposit and bonus are equal. Always check the base, game contribution rates and other conditions.
